CASE STUDIES
Couple with 13-year insurance policy
A man has been paying insurance for 13 years. His wife, who is a real estate agent, had a heart attack while at work. Their hospital billed them $175,000. He contacts the HR department to file for insurance claims, but they get a letter that their claims have been denied. He went to court to sue the insurance company.
His lawyers consulted Marvin to help them sort out the insurance policy. This service is called Contract Interpretation. Marvin has been doing it for 7 years and he has a high rate of policy evaluation and understanding.
After reviewing their insurance policy, it turned out that since his wife was working when she had her heart attack, the insurance puts it under work-related stress which is not covered by their insurance policy and that’s why their claim was not denied.
Only Black and White Insurance has policies that offers coverage on and off the job, 24hours. In fact, this can be found on the 2nd page of the policy.
Couple aged 52 and 53
Most people are in a plan and most people don’t like change. This couple said the same thing. However, we found out that they were paying for health products that they would never utilize.
The wife was 53 years old and paying for maturity, and they would not be ever using that. The average for maturity adds $100 – $125 a month. I asked if they took maternity off their plan when they enrolled. They took off maturity, inpatient alcohol and drug abuse program.
I was able to help them bring their monthly premium down $491 and improve their coverage by taking them from a Texas only EPO network to a nationwide PPO network.
Couple in their 30's with children
They have two teenage so thhe smart thing to do is to have coverage. The children just enrolled in middle and high school; they both played sports. Mr. Johnson didn’t know he was liable when his son broke his arm playing football in middle school. He thought the school covered it, but it doesn’t. We have accident protectors that payout for sports injuries.
Luckily, I got him to agree to add the accident protector, on supplement covering all four family members. That saved him $6500 of out of pocket for his son’s injury.
Young man, 28 years old
I just enrolled a young man, 28 years old. I told him that a health policy is not just for a doctor visit, it’s for anything significant that could happen that is unforeseen; like the COVID-19. I have plans that are light on the front end, a low number of doctor visits, plus with phone, app or FaceTime consultations with doctors for prescriptions.
With a plan like this, you pay a short amount each month. If a severe accident or illness occurs, then we can upgrade you to a fully comprehensive health plan, and your monthly premium will go up also. But you only pay that high premium when you need to activate it. This plan was built for young, healthy individuals like this young man.
